The firm was founded in May of 1994. We have adopted a holistic approach to ecological restoration, focusing on the land itself, the ecosystem services that the land provides and could potentially provide given the location, aspect and existing conditions. Since our founding in 1994, DeRosa has restored and rehabilitated many acres of impaired landscapes and damaged ecosystems in Eastern Massachusetts. Job Purpose

As fundamentally a matrix organized firm, everyone reports and supports everyone else in the group. Environmental Scientists play a crucial role in supporting the technical aspects of the design, permitting and implementation of our restoration projects and efforts. This role focuses on facilitating and coordinating operations of deliverables to all levels of regulatory agencies, partner engineering firms, landscape design firms, and other partners to ensure smooth operational execution and effective stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications

  • At least 3 to 5 years experience with MassDEP wetland rules and regulations
  • At least 3 to 5 years of wetland delineation experience in the field
  • Experience and competence with in person and virtual presentations to permitting agencies.
  • Excellent technical writing skills
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Excellent ability to communicate with project team and co-workers, contractors, vendors
  • Use of Microsoft, Adobe, and other PC software programs and suites
  • Passion for the earth and environment
  • Passion for problem solving and thinking through issues
  • Critical thinking skills a must

Compensation

  • Pay Range: $30 to $38/hour
  • Health Care: Tufts Health Direct (Single)
  • 5 Sick Days/year (not carried over)
  • 2 Weeks’ Vacation/year (not carried over)
  • Use of personal vehicles compensated at federal rate/mile
  • All bank holidays (11) We give the option to work on Veterans Day and have the day after Thanksgiving off.
  • 401K Plan after two years with company


Duties and Responsibilities

Permitting & Report Writing

  • Work as part of an integrated team to prepare, submit and present environmental permits in public meeting format (e.g., in person or remote, as determined by the municipalities).
  • Perform literature research to support technical decisions and approaches.
  • Prepare inspection/monitoring reports to document progress on projects.
  • Prepare technical proposals and reports for new projects.
  • Work with Federal, State and Local rules and regulations regarding wetland protection, permitting, wetland and habitat restoration and mitigation.


Wetland Delineation

  • Ability to delineate the boundary of wetland resource areas under the Army Corps of Engineers and MassDEP delineation methodologies.


Project Management

  • Integrate with field staff to ensure accurate and timely shipments and installations of plantings for ecological restoration projects.
  • Provide guidance to clients for ecological restoration projects.
  • Forecast potential plant growth problems and provide recommendations.
  • Manage and monitor environmental project activities to ensure timely completion.
  • Build positive and long-term working relationships with co-workers, regulators, and clients.


Training and Team Support

  • Provide training and guidance to team members regarding best practices and ways to improve the success of planting and ecological restoration projects.
  • Select and train seasonal student interns for working with the field staff during winter removal season and plant installations and maintenance during the growing season.


Site Inspections & Reports

  • Conduct site inspections to establish existing native and invasive plant communities and translate that information to narrative and graphic form using various software programs.
  • Research and recommend ways to improve protocols, methods, and new processes to improve information flow within the firm, client relations, technical support, especially in these climate disruptive times.
